Doctor Strong protests that his only motive is to secure some kind of livelihood for his wife's cousin.Wickfield says that finding Jack Maldon a job will be tricky because of Doctor Strong's motive. ![]() Wickfield hasn't yet, but he also makes an extremely mysterious comment: Mr. Wickfield if he has found any kind of employment for Annie Strong's cousin, Jack Maldon. David can't work out if Annie is Doctor Strong's daughter or wife. He is saved from further embarrassment by the entry of a young woman, Annie.Doctor Strong gives David his hand, and David is embarrassed because Doctor Strong doesn't shake – David isn't sure what he should do.He seems somewhat distracted and out of it, but he also welcomes David. ![]()
